Kakilima is a wife and husband team working to introduce high-quality Indonesian cuisine to a wider audience.

Retno and Peter met in 2006 in Jakarta, which is Retno’s hometown and where Peter worked as a journalist. For years they traveled the country together as a reporting team. Their work took them from the tip of Aceh to Papua and everywhere else in between. Retno, who hails from a long line of cooks, took the opportunity to research the country’s diverse cuisine. Then, in 2014, they spent more than six months traveling the archipelago for the sole purpose of researching recipes.

Kakilima now features many of those recipes at its popular multi-course tasting menu dinners. While we often take this show on the road (we’ve held dinners all over the country), these days we are mostly camping out in spaces around New York City. We can also come to you for private dinners and parties of all kinds and sizes, including weddings (email us at peter@kakilimanyc.com if you are interested).
